Operation of the New Madrid Floodway during the Flood of 1937

Our District has an integrated flood control system which includes over 600 miles of mainline levees, 560 miles of secondary levees, concrete floodwalls, levee floodways, and one to the largest storm water pumping stations in the world. This system has prevented almost 11 billion dollars in flood damages and protected over six million acres of cropland during five Mississippi River floods in the past five years.
