The Operations COP manages a wide variety of civil works programs within our four-district region. This COP has oversight of nearly 100 lakes, 19 navigation locks, 33 harbor sites, 18 hydropower facilities, over 1 million acres of federal lands and a recreation program that includes nearly 600 individual recreation areas accommodating over 80 million visitors annually. This amounts to approximately 22% of visitation to all Corps projects nationally.
Specific programs include water supply for portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas; prevention of over $600 million in property damages annually through flood damage reduction; generation of clean and low cost hydroelectric power; a navigation program responsible for managing over one-half billion tons of commerce annually; recreation; environmental stewardship; emergency management and the regulatory mission which is one of the most visible programs in the Corps responsible for protecting the nations waters.
