2007 Compassion Capital Fund Grantees Announced
Region VII Nets 27 Awards Totaling $5.5 Million


Twenty-seven awards for Region VII through ACF's Compassion Capital Fund (CCF) were announced 10/19/2007. The awards to organizations in Region VII, totaling approximately $5.5 million, include the following:

2007 Demonstration Awards: Demonstration program grantees serve as intermediaries providing assistance to and building the capacity of smaller faith-based and community organizations in their community.

  • Wichita State University in Wichita, KS: $499,641
  • Catholic Charities of Kansas City/St. Joseph, Kansas City, MO: $419,532
  • Regional Violence Initiative, St. Louis, MO: $461,397
  • Applied Information Management Institute, Omaha, NE: $500,000
  • Region V Systems, Lincoln, NE: $500,000

2007 Targeted Capacity Building Awards: These awards are designed to increase the capacity of organizations to support at-risk youth and the homeless, strengthen marriage and serve rural communities.

For the Homeless

  • The Heart Ministry Center, Inc., Omaha, NE: $46,040

For Healthy Marriage:

  • Missouri Bootheel Regional Consortium, Portageville, MO: $50,000
  • The Alliance for Families and Communities Affected by Incarceration, St. Louis, MO: $49,644
  • Oasis Counseling International, Norfolk, NE: $50,000

For Rural Communities:

  • American Red Cross Iowa Rivers Chapter, Marshalltown, IA: $50,000
  • Iowa Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, West Des Moines, IA: $50,000
  • All Faith Counseling Center of Atchison, Inc, Atchison, KS $45,005
  • FaithWalk Ministries, Paris, MO $49,896

For At-Risk Youth:

  • Coalition for Youth Safety Education and Empowerment, Kansas City, MO: $50,000
  • Erise Williams and Associates, Inc., St. Louis, MO $48,538
  • MBCH Foundation, Bridgeton, MO $50,000

2007 Communities Empowering Youth Awards: Under this program, organizations committed to combating gang activity, youth violence and child abuse and neglect will receive funds to strengthen their own capacity.  They will also build the capacity of their faith-based and community partners to operate more effectively in strengthening community coalitions committed to providing positive alternatives for at-risk youth.

  • Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, Lincoln, NE: $250,000
  • Oasis Counseling International, Norfolk, NE: $249,168
  • Youth Policy Institute of Iowa, Des Moines, IA: $225,000

  • Wichita State University, Wichita, KS: $225,000
  • Catholic Charities of Kansas City/St. Joseph, Inc., Kansas City, MO: $225,000
  • Columbia-Boone Community Partnership, Columbia, MO: $225,000
  • Vision for Children at Risk, St. Louis, MO: $225,000
  • W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center, Kansas City, MO: $225,000
  • Heartland Big Brothers and Sisters, Lincoln, NE: $225,000

The Compassion Capital Fund was created in 2002 as a key component of the federal faith-based and community initiative. The Fund is designed to help faith-based and community organizations increase their effectiveness and enhance their ability to provide social services by building their organizational capacity.
