Successful Parliamentary Elections in HaitiThe United States congratulates the people of Haiti, the Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council, and the Interim Government for the conclusion of successful parliamentary elections. The two rounds were conducted February 7 and April 21. The election results were announced today. The results will be certified on May 7. The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and the OAS played an important role in assisting Haiti with their elections. With the vote completed, the United States looks forward to the sitting of a new Parliament and the inauguration of President-elect Rene Preval on May 14. The Haitian people have clearly demonstrated their commitment to democracy through their elections.
