300 and counting -- rescue unit saves lives in Afghanistan
PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Air Force reservists with the 920th Rescue Wing here have saved more than 300 U.S. troops since deploying to Afghanistan in February 2008.

The Air Force Reserve Command unit is flying HH-60 helicopter missions in support the U.S. Army medical evacuation operation.

Airmen from the wing and its sister units in Arizona and Oregon have flown 1,181 sorties and saved 313 people, according to a wing intelligence report.

Rescue wing sends replacements to Afghanistan
PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- A group of Air Force reservists from the 920th Rescue Wing here departed on the last leg of a 14-month deployment to Afghanistan Dec. 27 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Approximately 40 helicopter aircrew members, maintenance specialists and logistics and support personnel gathered with their friends and families at the wing's helicopter squadron for tearful farewells.

"I feel confident that I am speaking for all of them when I say that all of us will walk away from this rotation with our head held high and a satisfaction of a job well done," said Chief Master Sgt. Jeff Cain, 506th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron manager.

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- The 442nd Fighter Wing Operation Airmen Helping Airmen "Christmas store" opened its doors on the Saturday of the December unit training assembly - and shut its doors the next day.

This short-lived enterprise wasn't meant to turn a profit. It was meant to help wing Airmen and their families have a more meaningful Christmas in these though economic times.

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Signaling a move toward greater teamwork between Air Force regular duty and reserve forces here, Peterson unveiled its newly-consolidated command post Dec. 16.

The integrated Peterson Installation Control Center will serve as the command post for both the regular duty 21st Space Wing and the Air Force Reserve 302nd Airlift Wing, a Peterson tenant unit.

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- They might not wear red suits or fly a sleigh with nine reindeer, but the 709th Airlift Squadron kept true to the holiday spirit of goodwill to all mankind. 

Performing the role of Santa's sleigh Dec. 5-6, a Dover Air Force Base, Del., C-5 Galaxy packed with 64,000 pounds of cargo was delivered to the Guatemala City International Airport to assist a local grade school and orphanage. 

Officials announce Reserve colonel promotions
DENVER -- Air Reserve Personnel Center officials announced the fiscal 2009 Air Force Reserve Line and Nonline Colonel Promotion Selection Board results today.

A selection board convened at the center here Oct. 6-10 to determine those officers qualified to assume the next higher grade. Board members selected 96 of 1,664 Air Force Reserve officers considered.
