Gerard Gawalt discusses the draft of a letter that Thomas Jefferson sent to Meriwether Lewis to initiate the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Speaker Biography: Gerard Gawalt, an American History specialist with the Manuscript Division, has been a curator of Presidential Papers at the Library for more than thirty years. The Library's leading Thomas Jefferson expert, he is curator of the Jefferson exhibit. He, along with his daughter Ann, edited "First Daughters: Letters Between U.S. Presidents and Their Daughters."
