Rita Dove reads her poems and discusses their sources with a small group of students. The poems are selected from Thomas and Beulah (Carnegie-Mellon University Press, 1986) which won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, and from her earlier books: The Yellow House on the Corner (1980), Museum (Carnegie-Mellon University Press, 1983), and a book of short stories: Fifth Sunday (University Press of Virginia, 1985).
Speaker Biography: Rita Dove, who was born in Akron, Ohio, was Poet Laureate of the United States from 1993-1995. She is Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia. Works include "Thomas and Beulah," which won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, "The Yellow House on the Corner," Museum" and a book of short stories, "Fifth Sunday."
