harkin announces more than $425,000 for dislocated workers in waukon and surrounding areas

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that Iowa Workforce Development received $428,138 to provide dislocated worker services for Iowans who lost their jobs as a result of the closure of Northern Engraving Corp. in Waukon, IA. These funds were made available through the U.S. Department of Labor. Harkin is Chairman of the Senate Appropriations panel that funds workforce initiatives.

"These funds will help Iowa Workforce Development provide Iowans with job training that will help them pursue new opportunities," Harkin said. "Job training can be crucial for workers whose skills are not easily transferable or whose industries' lack new employment opportunities."

The funds will be used to provide services to dislocated workers, including skills assessment, basic and occupational skills training, and individual career counseling.
