Harkin Statement Regarding Meeting With Governor Culver

U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) released the following statement after his meeting with Governor Chet Culver regarding disaster aid for Iowa:

"Governor Culver and I had a thorough and substantive meeting today regarding Iowa’s needs after the historic flooding that hit our state. Families and communities of all sizes are continuing to pick up the pieces, and I am committed to getting them the federal resources they need to fully recover and rebuild.

"The Senate Appropriations Committee will take action on a bill soon that will include disaster aid for Iowa. As a senior member of the Committee, I have been working with my colleagues to include funding in that bill that will help Iowa homeowners and businesses recover, as well as dollars to rebuild our broken levees and other infrastructure.

"The damage in Iowa is massive, and securing resources for Iowans after this historic crisis is my top priority here in the Senate. I look forward to working with the Governor and Iowa’s Congressional delegation to maximize the federal response."
