Housing FORECLOSURE RESOURCES Preserving and Expanding Homeownership It is crucial that families, especially low- and middle-income families, have sufficient resources available to them in order to make informed decisions about financial options. Congresswoman Solis voted in favor of the Expanding American Homeownership Act which would provide more affordable mortgage loans for first-time homebuyers by revitalizing the Federal Housing Administration. Addressing Predatory Lending Congresswoman Solis also voted for the Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act, which would curb predatory lending, require that all issued loans have the ability to be repaid, and increase financial literacy through expert loan counseling. I will continue fighting to expand the dream of homeownership to all of America’s working families. Providing Affordable Housing On any given night there are nearly 10,000 homeless persons in the San Gabriel Valley. Affordable housing can provide security for families struggling to meet their basic needs. That is why Congresswoman Solis voted to support the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007. This bill would establish a fund to provide for the development, rehabilitation, and preservation of decent, safe, and affordable housing for low-income families. Supporting Community Development Congresswoman Solis strongly supports the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which funds local community development activities such as affordable housing and anti-poverty programs. Approximately 1.6 million people in the City of Los Angeles and LA County have benefited from services that are funded by the CDBG program. CDBG funding has improved the quality of life for many citizens in the 32nd Congressional District, which includes parts of East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley.
