Agriculture Working to advance the interests of American Agriculture is one of my top priorities. It is my firm belief that we must protect our nation's food and fiber supply while continuing work to increase access to global markets for our domestically produced agriculture goods. An economic investment in agriculture is wise federal policy which provides a multitude of benefits to American consumers. With regard to trade issues as they relate to agriculture in the 110th Congress I must state that I am a big proponent of free trade so long as it is also fair trade. With 95% of the world’s population residing outside of the United States, and over a quarter of our domestic cash receipts in agriculture coming from export markets, trade is, and will continue to be an extremely important component of American Agriculture. However, I have not and will not support any trade agreement that is not just and fair for U.S. Agriculture. I will continue my work on the House Agriculture Committee in expressing these views of Texas farmers and ranchers in order to advance the interests of American Agriculture throughout the debate in crafting the 2007 Farm Bill and in return I know that our domestic producers will continue to provide all Americans with the cheapest and most abundant food and fiber supply in the world.
