Energy Americans have been hit hard by the high cost of energy. As worldwide energy demand increases, the United States must find ways to increase our domestic energy supply. Basic economics tells us that by lowering demand and increasing supply, we can effectively combat rising prices. There is no rifle shot solution to solving this problem in the short term, but I do believe Congress can take steps now to increase our domestic energy supply, encourage innovation of renewable energy sources and use conservation to lower our current demand. Energy Security: Diversify, Increase Domestic Supply, Develop Technoligies With so much at stake, we must move forward in a rational and bipartisan manner to recognize the need for sustainable and reliable energy for our national security. West Texas has long served as the largest oil and natural gas producing area in the continental United States. Today, West Texas also leads in the production of clean, renewable wind energy. I am very encouraged by the leaders in West Texas who are expanding our energy portfolio. I currently serve on the House Energy Action Team (HEAT), a select working group of Republican leaders who serve as the frontline leaders on energy debates in the House. As a member of HEAT, I will continue to promote policies that advance new technologies and innovation. I have supported drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). This exploration can be conducted in a safe manner that does not damage the environment and provides additional production of crude oil. Having grown up in the Permian Basin working as a roughneck, I know exploration can be conducted in a way that does not damage the environment and that will provide additional production of crude oil to help us reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
