BROWNBACK APPLAUDS GRANTS AWARDED TO KANSAS FIRE DEPARTMENTS

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback today applauded two Kansas fire departments selected to receive FY 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards.

"It is essential for the safety of all Kansas residents that our local fire departments and emergency medical organizations are equipped with the necessary funding to carry out their duties," said Brownback. "The grants awarded to the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department and the Chautauqua County Rural Fire District will ensure necessary operation and safety training and equipment for those brave individuals protecting our communities."

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program nationally offers funding for community fire departments and emergency medical services.

Award grantees for this round are listed below:

• The City of Hanover Volunteer Fire Department: $57,000 • The Chautauqua County Rural Fire District #3: $36,642
