BROWNBACK COMMENTS ON SENATE PASSAGE OF CONTINUING RESOLUTION
Bill contains funding for many critical Kansas projects

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback today commented on Senate passage of the Continuing Resolution, a funding bill which provides appropriations for Fiscal Year 2009. The continuing resolution will include FY09 Defense appropriations as well as FY09 Military Construction appropriations and the FY09 Homeland Security bill.

"I am glad that the Senate was able to come together in a bipartisan fashion to pass the Continuing Resolution," said Brownback. "There are many critical projects included in this bill that will benefit my home state of Kansas. I am also pleased the Homeland Security FY09 bill included full funding for the National Bio-Agro Facility project."

Below is a list of Kansas projects included in the Continuing Resolution:

Defense: National Guard and First Responder Resiliency Training, Topeka: $1,200,000 Smoky Hill Range Equipment, Smoky Hill Air National Guard Range, Salina: $1,600,000 Squadron Operations Facility Repair - Phase 1, Forbes Field, Topeka: $2,200,000 Unmanned Aerial System Mission Planning, Salina: $400,000 Transmission Dynamometer, Army National Guard, Topeka: $1,600,000 Defense Command Integration Center, Kansas National Guard, Topeka: $880,000 UAV Technology Evaluation Program, Wichita: $3,000,000 Fire Suppression Panels, Winfield: $2,500,000 Life Support Radio Test Sets for the Air National Guard, Wichita: $1,000,000 Composite Small Main Rotor Blades, Wichita: $1,600,000 Long Range Hypersonic Interceptor, Lansing: $800,000 Superior Weapons Systems Through Castings, Atchison: $1,600,000 Accelerated Insertion of Advanced Materials and Certification for Military Aircraft Structure Material Substitution and Repair, National Institute for Aviation Research, Wichita: $3,000,000 AT-6B Capabilities Demonstration for the Air National Guard, Wichita: $6,000,000 Core Component Jammer, Wichita: $9,000,000 Nanocomposites for Lightning Protection of Composite Airframe Structures, National Institute for Aviation Research, Wichita: $1,200,000 Contaminated Human Remains Pouch, Manhattan: $1,600,000 Defense Fuelcell Locomotive, Topeka: $2,000,000 Aging Military Aircraft Fleet Support, National Institute for Aviation Research, Wichita: $1,600,000 Lithium/Sulfur Chemistry Validation for Sonobuoy Application, Pittsburg: $1,600,000 Urban Operations Laboratory, Kansas State University, Manhattan: $1,600,000

In addition, the bill includes funding for the following programs that provide jobs in Kansas:

Airborne Laser, Wichita: $402,000,000 CH-53K Helicopter, Wichita: $570,484,000 JPATS, Wichita: $287,953,000 Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft, Wichita: $1,132,026,000

Additionally, the supplemental spending bill funded accounts from which Kansas projects will receive necessary money. Below is a list of funding that benefit Kansas included in the supplemental spending bill:

Funding for Class 2 and 3 railroads which were damaged during recent natural disasters; 13.6 miles of the South Kansas and Oklahoma railroad in Southeast Kansas were washed out by rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ike.

Funding for USDA ARS to rebuild federal labs that were destroyed during a tornado. The USDA ARS Wind Erosion Research Lab at Kansas State University in Manhattan was destroyed by a tornado that struck in June of this year.

Funding for low-interest loans to replace scientific equipment on Kansas State's campus destroyed during June's tornado.
