CRS Internet Resource Guide

The Internet Resource Guide provided below is produced and maintained on my behalf by the Congressional Research Service (CRS), a department of the Library of Congress which works exclusively as a nonpartisan analytical, research, and reference arm for both the House and Senate. Normally, CRS reports are intended only for the use of Senators, Representatives, and their staffs. The following guide is provided, maintained, and updated by CRS at my request so that Idahoans may have access to accurate and current information about online resources available from the federal government.

If you have any questions or comments about the information provided here, please contact me.

Financial Aid for Students

Guides students through the process of locating and applying for financial aid.  Prepared by the Congressional Research Service for Members of Congress, updated October 2008.

Getting started

Student aid and where it comes from

Basic assistance categories:

  • Financial need-based
Remember that students and their parents are responsible for paying what they can-- financial aid is a supplement, not a substitute, for family resources.
  • Non need-based
Factors include academic excellence, ethnic background, or organization membership. Corporations may also offer assistance to employees and children.
