WASHINGTON—U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-08) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted 265-142 to reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP):
“For the third time in only four months, the House has approved a compassionate and fiscally sound bill that would insure 10 million children with health coverage. We have once again advanced a revised reauthorization effort specifically designed to meet the concerns expressed by those who sustained the President’s misguided SCHIP veto. The President and other SCHIP opponents are running out of excuses to deny our children the coverage they are entitled to receive.”
H.R. 3936, a revised version of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) Reauthorization would continue to provide health care coverage for 10 million children. However, the revised bill also contains new provisions that are designed to meet the concerns that have been raised in the following four areas: 1.) high-income children; 2.) illegal immigrants; 3.) coverage of adults; 4.) children moving from private insurance to SCHIP.
