Mankato — Today, Congressman Walz announced that over one million eligible veterans will see their mileage reimbursement rate more than double for travel to VA medical facilities. Late last year, Congressman Walz voted to increase funding for the reimbursement rate after hearing from Minnesotan veterans about the large costs of traveling to VA clinics.
“This will bring much needed relief to veterans across southern Minnesota,” said Walz. “Ensuring that our veterans receive world-class health care is an issue that transcends party lines – it shows what is possible when we work together. These veterans deserve the absolute best care and increasing the mileage reimbursement is the right thing to do.”
The 2008 appropriations act provided funding for VA to increase the beneficiary travel mileage reimbursement rate from 11 cents per mile to 28.5 cents per mile. The increase goes into effect today, Feb. 1.
