Services for International Exchange Students

SAC is committed to helping you - in whatever way you need!

All exchange students are invited to a welcome breakfast before the first session of the specialized one-week Orientation Program. We'll take you shopping and help you get settled. Here are some of the ways we help:

Personalized Settling-In Assistance

  • Transportation to campus from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (during the designated pick-up weekend only)
  • Moving into reserved campus residence hall
  • Acquiring...
    • Bank account
    • UNT identification card and post office box
    • U.S. Social Security card
    • Work permission on the UNT campus
    • Required health/accident insurance (we help you make informed decisions)

Beyond Orientation Week

In addition to special services during orientation week, the SAC...

  • Serves as a temporary mailing address; you will be asked to get a P.O. box.
  • Telephones you when a faxed message arrives
  • Provides transportation for emergency situations during your stay at UNT
  • Maintains contact with the home institution to ensure that your needs and those of the institution are being met
  • Welcomes telephone calls, faxed letters, electronic mail messages, and personal visits to the campus by home-institution faculty and administrators.

Academic Advising and Personal Counseling

The staff of the Study Abroad Center advises you during your stay at UNT. This advisement includes:

  • General academic requirements and routine
  • Course selection and placement
  • Textbook purchase, computer and electronic mail access
  • Visa status
  • Campus employment

You also meet with an academic advisor in your major department. If you have questions about the selection of courses, we help you contact your home department to decide appropriate courses.

At the end of each semester, the staff of the SAC collects and records your course grades, and reports them to you and your home institution. The final grade report is the formal report of the student's academic efforts and results.
