Fulbright Application Timeline

Summer 2009 (for awards made in 2010-2011 academic year)

Spring and Summer 2009

  • Applicants attend a Fulbright informational meeting or meet individually to discuss proposals with Mary Beth Butler, UNT Fulbright Program Advisor (565-4418 / marybeth@unt.edu).
  • Review online application at http://us.fulbrightonline.org/home.html
  • Work with faculty advisors in your field of study to create a feasible, thorough, and sound proposal, summarized in two essays: "Statement of Proposed Study" and "Personal Statement."
  • Begin to secure letters of reference, transcripts, and letters of acceptance from the host country/institution.
  • Bring or e-mail the essay drafts to Ms. Butler for review. Drafts of essays, applications and supporting materials may be submitted at any time during the spring and summer.
  • Meet with Dr. James Duban, Director, Office for Nationally Competitive Scholarships (565-2820 / jduban@unt.edu / www.opgf.unt.edu on refinement of essay drafts and to explore other funding options.

Monday, August 10, 2009

  • Deadline to meet with Mary Beth Butler for review of draft proposal and begin online application process. After this date, new applications will be deferred to the next year’s process.

Monday, Septemer 14, 2009

  • Deadline to submit final draft of all parts of application online and to submit paper documents (including printed and signed copy of application, references, support letters, and transcripts) to Study Abroad Center (SAC), 115 Kendall Hall.

Week of Sept. 28 - October 2, 2009

  • Campus Fulbright Committee Interviews
  • Following an individual interview, students have the opportunity to make changes to the application as suggested by the committee.

Friday, October 9, 2009

  • Revised applications due to SAC. Applications sent to IIE New York for national deadline.

  • Notifications of acceptance at US level are sent.
