Oral History Collection

Oral histories fill in the gaps in the written record by preserving the memories of Texans who have been eye-witnesses to, or participants in, historic events. The UNT collection originally concentrated on Texas politics and politicians, but has expanded greatly, including interviews on local African American history, entrepreneurial history, the Holocaust, the New Deal, women's history, community history, World War II, and other subjects.
Consisting of approximately 1,600 bound volumes of interviews, the majority of the transcripts in the University Archives collection were generated by the UNT Oral History Program in the university's History Department. Another collection of bound oral history transcripts in the Archives were created by the UNT College of Business Administration and consist of conversations with some of the most prominent business persons in the north central Texas area.
The Oral History Program has made an index the oral history collection, which includes their own interviews as well as the ones created by the UNT College of Business Administration. You can access it on line at the Oral History Program website.
