Project Management with Basecamp

Speaking Notes from a Tech Talks Presentation by Mark Phillips, April 23, 2008

The Basecamp is simply a  Web-based project management and collaboration software. This Tech Talk will cover how to make use of the Basecamp software to manage projects.  Features of the software will be demonstrated and practical examples with real projects will be shown:

    • Logging In

    • Dashboard

    • People

    • Settings

    • Projects

      • Overview

      • Messages

      • To-Do

      • Milestones

      • Writeboards

      • Chat

      • Time

      • Files

We started using Basecamp here at the Digital Projects Unit during the summer of 2007 to help with managing various projects that were going on in the unit. We picked Basecamp because of good reviews from friends and users in general (94% recommendation rate). We have found it to be useful for a variety of activities.

Following the demonstration, a discussion on features and limitations spurred conversation among those attending.
