UNT University of North Texas

Community Partners

Thank you for checking out the UNT Volunteer Center Website. The center is a unit of the Dean of Students Department within the Division of Student Development. UNT has over 30,000 students and 5,000 employees, making it an excellent source of volunteers. Whether you need someone with a particular skill, a volunteer for one hour a week, or a lot of bodies to staff an event, we want to help.

The University of North Texas Volunteer Center serves as a connectivity resource, linking the students, faculty, and staff of UNT with the community agencies and individuals in need of volunteers. The Volunteer Center sponsors events for the UNT Community, like Adopt-A-Block, Alternative Spring Break, and Outreach Day. In addition, the center also maintains a database of community agencies and an up to date calendar of volunteer opportunities. It is our hope that every UNT student will participate in at least one community service experience before graduation.

When a student comes to the Volunteer Center, he or she is asked to fill out a volunteer application, which gives us an idea about the demographics and interests of our potential student volunteers. Then, each one is given a current calendar of volunteer opportunities. We have two different packets, one with date specific opportunities and one with on going opportunities. While the Volunteer Center staff is always available to answer questions and provide some guidance, we require the students to actually initiate their volunteer experience by contacting the individual or agency listed.

In order to create our volunteer packets, we rely on the volunteer agencies and individuals to let us know what their need is. This can be done by filling out our Request Form for Volunteers (pdf), which is available by e-mail, on-line, and in paper form. We do not guarantee volunteers! We merely advertise on your behalf about your current needs.

To help in planning some of our sponsored events, like Make A Difference Day, we may contact you to see if you have any specific opportunities available. For this to work, we need up to date contact information. Please be sure to update us about phone number, e-mail, and volunteer coordinator changes!

For your records, our contact information is as follows:

The UNT Volunteer Center is currently staffed with a director, a graduate assistant, and a student assistant. If we can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to contact us! We thank you for your cooperation in helping the students of the University of North Texas as well as your dedication to helping the people in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton metroplex.

Looking for Volunteers?

Here's what to do:

  1. Sign up as a community agency with us.
  2. Fill out a Request Form for Volunteers (pdf). The sooner we get the dates the better!
  3. Keep us up to date on changes in contact information and opportunities.
  4. E-mail us with any ideas, questions, or comments.
  5. Recognize your UNT volunteers and let us know how things are going.
  6. Send a representative to our annual Volunteer Fair, held each Fall semester.

The information on this site will help you most effectively make the UNT Community aware of your needs and recruit volunteers. Please note that we receive numerous requests for volunteers each month, and that some of those requests do go unfilled.

Things to Consider

As you recruit and work with UNT students, you will want to take into account that UNT works on an academic calendar.

You may also want to consider placing a classified ad in the NT Texas Daily (on campus student newspaper). For more information, contact the Main Office at (940) 565-2851, dailyads@unt.edu.
