Research Appreciation Day

The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) is pleased to announce that the Seventeenth Annual Research Appreciation Day (RAD) will be held on Friday March 6th 2009.

RAD is an institutional tradition encompassing medicine, public health and basic science. The program provides an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to share their research efforts with the campus community and the public. RAD encourages the development of joint research projects and increases the community's awareness of the outstanding quality and range of research conducted at UNT Health Science Center.

The theme of this year’s event is, “The Art and Science of Biomedical Research and Heath”.  The event will be held at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center in conjunction with their spring art exhibit.  We expect over two hundred research projects on a wide range of heath issues including aging, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, vision, physical medicine, women’s health, public health, infectious diseases and others to be presented.  Almost $10,000 in student awards will be presented to the top student researchers.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Josephine Briggs, MD Director of the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Research.     Dr. Briggs is a nationally known physician and researcher and will be discussing cutting edge aspects of complementary and alternative medicine research.

Also displayed at this year’s RAD will be an overview of UNTHSC Health Institutes of Texas (HIT).  HIT was designed to leverage UNTHSC’s growing expertise in public health, interdisciplinary scientific research, medical education and health care delivery. HIT provides the University with an innovative way to translate information and research while fueling the growth of critical discoveries into new models of care and provider training.  Ten HIT institutes currently reside at UNTHSC allowing the University to speed investigational approaches from the bench to the bedside to the community to create a healthier and more productive Texas.
