Texas Instruments will provide gifts totaling $1.1 million to the University of North Texas Dallas Campus to create a permanent operating endowment fund to support scholarships for future math teachers. The grant will be payable to UNT Dallas over five years.
To provide scholarships to students who pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with teacher certification at the UNT Dallas Campus, or future UNT Dallas. Students who participate in the program will be known as TI Math Scholars.
To encourage students interested in seeking a bachelor's in math with a teaching certification to enroll in the TI Math Scholars Program at UNT in Dallas. The program seeks to enroll a diverse student population, especially members of underrepresented groups such as minorities and women. UNT Dallas seeks to enroll 30 junior-level students in Fall 2007, and 20 entering freshmen per year beginning Fall 2009.
A scholarship for full tuition and fees, plus book allowance of $500 per semester will be awarded to program participants.
The TI Math Scholars Program will provide a focused degree plan with high-quality instruction combined with direct student support initiatives, such as mentoring programs, seminars and internships.
Applicants must possess the following characteristics:
Program participants must sign a letter of intent to teach for a minimum of two (2) years in the Dallas, Desoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill or Lancaster School District.
The scholarship will continue to be awarded to a TI Math Scholar on a semester-by-semester basis, and in successive years as long as the student continues in good standing in the TI Math Scholars Program.
