What is Library Instruction?
Library Instruction is provided for groups and involves in-depth instruction in and development of cognitive strategies for the effective use of the services, facilities, and resources available through the University of North Texas Libraries. In its most comprehensive form, library instruction includes the promotion of information literacy skills for lifelong learning.
Individualized Class Instruction
The UNT librarians welcome the opportunity to work with your classes at the beginning of assignments that involve the use of the library. If you would like to request a library instruction session, contact the library liaison for your department or the Instruction Unit at 940-565-4812 two weeks before the desired session. The classes will be tailored to your assignment, and the librarian will be happy to work with you to make the session as relevant as possible to the students’ needs. There is a class available teaching students to evaluate web sites that can be tailored to your class needs as well. Contact Frances A. May at 940-565-4812 for more information on this.
Blackboard Classes
If you are teaching an online class through Blackboard, a general tutorial with quizzes is available through Blackboard, and a class page can be designed to help the students with their assignments. You can view existing class pages through the library’s web site at this URL: http://www.library.unt.edu/classes/default.htm. Contact Frances A. May for more information and to set this up. She can be reached at 940-565-4812; e-mail frances.may@unt.edu. Other services are also available; just ask.
How Do I Request Instruction?
Library Instruction is available to groups with an official connection to the University of North Texas, including students, faculty, and staff. Library instruction for other types of groups is available under special circumstances.
Library instruction may be requested through the Library Instruction Unit or directly from the library department that will be providing the instruction. Groups must have a legitimate instructional need and should provide a minimum of two weeks prior notice for instructional requests.
