After You Apply

Application Process

Your college application is important to us.  It will go through several important admissions processing stages.  The UNT application should include an accurate email address so that we can send the "admissions status" information during the different admissions stages.  This office regularly sends several important email messages via international@unt.edu during the application process, so remember to remove spam blocker from your personal email account.

Stage 1:  The data entry process begins after receipt of the application form AND application fees.  Application fees are mandatory and non-refundable.  At the end of this stage applicants receive a detailed "application status" email message.  Also, applicants receive another email with instructions to activate the UNT Personal Portal Page.  The email includes the 8-digit student ID number, personal EUID and 4-digit PIN number.  Processing time is 1 week.  However, processing time is longer during peak admissions period.

Once the EUID is activated and password is created, applicants may access UNT portal 24/7 (24 hours a day; 7 days a week) to check the status of your application.  It is very important to review the To-Do-List to determine any missing application material(s) such as official/original academic transcript, and proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.)

IMPORTANT TIPs:

  1. Item(s) that are listed under the To-Do-List means that the required material is not yet received, and therefore, delays Stage 2 of the admissions processing.
  2. Click on “details” and subsequent hyperlink to read brief explanation.
  3. The due date is computer generated, and therefore, does not imply actual deadline.  Refer to semester application deadlines for international students.
  4. When required document(s) is submitted/mailed to the International Admissions office, please allow for mailing time and processing delays.  This office updates application records within 2-3 days of receipt.

Stage 2:  Application is processed for admissions review AFTER all required materials are received.  Bachelor admission is reviewed by International Admissions trained officers.  Master, Doctoral or Second Bachelor admissions determination is performed at the chosen major department, and/or the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies.  Processing time is 1 week for IELI, 1-2 weeks for Bachelor, and 4-8 weeks for all other degree program.

Stage 3:  When admitted, this office issues the I-20 or DS-2019 (for F-1 or J-1 visa) documents and/or the Admissions/Registration permit.  To prevent delays in receiving I-20 document, provide Financial Support documents promptly, if necessary.  Processing time is 1 week.

Stage 4:  Admitted applicants receive email notification AFTER the I-20 or DS-2019 is issued and the admissions package is mailed out.  Also, applicants receive SEVIS number to begin non-immigrant visa application process.  Students may choose to pay optional $40 courier or express mail fee for faster delivery.

If I-20 or DS-2019 is not needed, applicants receive Admissions and Registration permit via postal mail.  Non-F1 or J1 visa holders may be eligible to pay in-state tuition rate while at UNT.  Complete and submit the Residency Questionnaire form with supporting documents to International Admissions office at the earliest convenience.  Read the website carefully for eligibility requirement.  Deadline to submit the completed form and required documentation is 1 month prior to UNT semester registration.

Status Checks

Applicants may check your status online once we have given you your UNT 8-digit Student ID (E.g. 1069XXXX). Applicants may also check the admissions status by sending us an email with a subject of "status check".  Due to the volume of application, it takes 1-2 weeks to respond, therefore online status check is highly encouraged.

Orientation

International Student Orientation is MANDATORY for all F-1 and J-1 visa holders. All other international students MUST participate in Document Check-in. New International students must meet with the International Advising office for any immigration related advising.  International Student Orientation and Document Check-in are only available during scheduled Orientation and Registration periods.  Also, undergraduate students MUST attend University Orientation.

Registration

Registration for classes cannot occur until after you have attended all required orientations on campus. The registration schedule is listed online.
