@igrigorik We're on Percona builds for most databases. Trying a stock MySQL build on the leaking server now to isolate the problem.
@igrigorik Our other apps databases are too big for one instance too, that's why we started with Tada. Didn't want to get too ambitious.
@igrigorik Bigger instance size generally give much better IO performance since the dom0 has fewer domUs to manage IO for.
@igrigorik The Tada database fits in the buffer pool for the instance size we're using. We have seen odd io performance variability though.
@igrigorik Using a pair of instances with MySQL replication and EBS volumes for the data. EBS snapshots for backups work really nicely.
@igrigorik We're only running the Tadalist database on EC2, and it's fairly small. Not doing anything really special.
@tsaleh It looks like MySQL leaking on the order of 50MB/hour at this point, and I've seen as much as 200MB/hr. No root cause yet. :(
MySQL memory leak not fixed.:( Fortunately, this server has lots of RAM for us to work with while we look for a fix.
@tobi I lived it. Painfully. I'll write up a blog post on SvN if this fixes it.
Cautiously optimistic that the MySQL patch I applied fixed our leak problem. Looking good so far.
Beginning to get annoyed.
Waiting for Rackspace to call to kick off tonight's hardware upgrade.
@michaelahale I might give puppet another try soon just to catalog my thoughts on it so I can give more useful criticism than "no like!".
@michaelahale The last straw for me was that puppetrun didn't work, but there were lots of little frustrations along the way.
Taking Basecamp down in about 3 hours for hardware upgrades to its primary database server. Totally routine, but still nerve wracking.
@randybias I tried very hard to like Puppet, but there were enough things that just didn't work the last time I tried it to scare me off.
@randybias Even if it wasn't flat, it was at the very least out of balance and pulling to the left some. :)
@joshowens It's not great, but it could be worse. There's a patch that we are hopeful will help: http://is.gd/auEd
Ugh, MySQLleaking memory. Just what I wanted for Christmas!
@randybias I don't see anything wrong with reinventing the wheel if the existing wheel has a flat tire.
