So chestnuts were obliterated because of a blight fungus that was on Asian Chestnut trees planted in Long Island.
I'm also wondering about the blight that destroyed chestnuts during 1900-1940. I have noticed less squirrels this year.
@sarahw Could it be that the meteorological conditions required to sustain acorns on trees have dramatically shifted? Global warming?
