The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care & Control is participating in the nation-wide Iams Home 4 the Holidays 2008 adoption program. The goal of the program is to find homes for 1 million pets by Jan. 5. All pets adopted during this promotion will receive a starter kit that includes samples, coupons, and other helpful pet information.

MARK RIDLEY-THOMAS ELECTED SUPERVISOR Mark Ridley-Thomas is the new supervisor in the Second District, replacing Yvonne B. Burke. Ridley-Thomas became supervisor at noon Dec. 1. Results of the Nov. 4 election have been certified by the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk and are posted online. More than 4.3 million registered to vote in Los Angeles County. TAX-DEFAULTED PROPERTY FOR SALE AT AUCTION The Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office will be selling tax-defaulted properties at public auction Feb. 9 and 10, 2009 at the Los Angeles County Fairplex in Pomona. Bidders must register between Jan. 5-23. Detailed information is provided regarding the auction and how to purchase an auction book listing the properties. The County is removing 150-200 feral cats from Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey and is asking members of the public to contact the County Animal Care and Control Department if they are interested in adopting any of the animals. Free flu vaccines will be given at clinics offered by the County Department of Public Health beginning Oct. 20. Shots and FluMist vaccine will be available at schools, churches and community sites.
