The Rough-Leaved Dogwood (Cornus drummondii C.A. Mey.) gets its common name from the leaves' battered appearance. The white flowers are found in flat topped clusters. It grows along streams in deep shade, but is tolerant of drought. The dense root system produces suckers that form a dense thicket and crowd out competitors. It provides good erosion control and the seeds are eaten by more than forty bird species.
