MDL implements new maximum/minimum temperature, 2-m temperature, dew point, wind, and wind gust equations to generate guidance for all cycles of the GFS-based short- and extended-range MOS guidance. This should reduce the differences between the accuracy and character of the 00Z and 12Z MOS guidance. In addition, about 90 new stations were added to the equations. These new stations will be available in August 2006 - See Above.

On March 6, 2002, NCEP changed the configuration of the Global Forecast System (GFS) to provide four runs
of the Global Spectral Model for forecast projections out to 384 hours.
Since the changes made on March 6 provide four extended runs of the GFS, NCEP is terminating the MRF,
effective April 24, 2002.
The impact of these changes on the current suite of AVN and MRF MOS guidance is minimal.
