Tournament MVP Craig Johnson led the Bears to the Maritime Classic championship. VALLEJO, CA.—(11/22/08)—Senior Craig Johnson, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, had 21 points and eight rebounds while freshman Theo Jensen added a career-high 19 points as Coast Guard won the Maritime Classic Basketball Tournament beating host California Maritime 78-67 in the championship game in front of a standing room only crowd at Mayo Gymnasium.
Coast Guard (3-1) beat Cal. Maritime 73-62 in the first round of the Maritime Tournament last season.
Sophomore Brett Huntley hit a 3-pointer following a steal by junior Eric Hudson to cap a 9-2 spurt, giving Coast Guard a 61-51 lead with 8:09 left.
Andrew Medeiros scored seven straight points as the Keelhaulers closed to within 61-58 with 5:15 left. |
