Football - Bears Place Seven on NEFC All-Division team

Justin Brooks earned first team All-division honors for the second straight season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(11/24/08)--Coast Guard placed seven players on the New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Bogan Division team including five on the first team in voting by the division’s eight head coaches.

Coast Guard which won back-to-back NEFC Bogan Division championships with perfect division records in 2006 and 2007 finished 3-6 overall and 3-4 in division play.

Senior linebackers Brian Yurovich and Brian Field along with junior cornerback Pat Bennett were named first team from the defense. All three were second team All-division selections in 2007.

Men's Basketball - Bears Win Maritime Classic

Tournament MVP Craig Johnson led the Bears to the Maritime Classic championship.
VALLEJO, CA.—(11/22/08)—Senior Craig Johnson, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, had 21 points and eight rebounds while freshman Theo Jensen added a career-high 19 points as Coast Guard won the Maritime Classic Basketball Tournament beating host California Maritime 78-67 in the championship game in front of a standing room only crowd at Mayo Gymnasium.

Coast Guard (3-1) beat Cal. Maritime 73-62 in the first round of the Maritime Tournament last season.

Sophomore Brett Huntley hit a 3-pointer following a steal by junior Eric Hudson to cap a 9-2 spurt, giving Coast Guard a 61-51 lead with 8:09 left.

Andrew Medeiros scored seven straight points as the Keelhaulers closed to within 61-58 with 5:15 left.

Women's Swimming - Bears Beat WPI for First Win of Season

Sarah-Jane Otey won both the 100 and 100 freestyle events to lead the Bears past WPI.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/22/08)--Sarah-Jane Otey won both the 100 and 1,000 freestyle leading Coast Guard to a 166.5-115.5 win over WPI, the Bears first win of the season.

Otey posted a time of 56.78 in the 100 freestyle and a time of 11:24.60 in the 1,000 freestyle event.

Kim Shadwick won the 200 freestyle event (1:58.44) and set a pool and school record in the 500 freestyle (5:11.61).

Men's Swimming - Bears Beat WPI 151-132

Timmy Berry won a pair of events and a relay as the Bears beat WPI.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/22/08)--Timmy Berry won the 100 and 200 backstroke and was part of the winning 400 medley relay team as Coast Guard beat WPI 151-132.

Berry won the 100 backstroke (54.65), 200 backstroke (1:58.69) and teamed wtih Jack Sauve, Dan Alley and Jim Okorn to win the 400 medley relay (3:38.22).

Okorn also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.33.
