Title: The Consortium for Plant Biotechnology Research, Inc., Environmental Research and Technology Transfer Program
Investigators: Schumacher, Dorin
Institution: Florida State University
Current Institution: The Consortium for Plant Biotechnology Research, Inc.
EPA Project Officer: Lasat, Mitch
Project Period: November 1, 2001 through October 31, 2006 (Extended to December 31, 2007)
Project Amount: $986,500
RFA: The Consortium for Plant Biotechnology Research, Inc., Environmental Research and Technology Transfer Program (2001)
Research Category: Targeted Research , Hazardous Waste/Remediation

Description:

Approach:

Research projects are selected for funding using a process that includes a two-stage review: 1) industrial and sponsoring agency review of preproposals to assess commercial and sponsoring agency relevance, and 2) peer review of full proposals to assess scientific merit. When the EPA FY 2001 funds are awarded to CPBR, the top proposals in CPBR's 2001 competition, already peer-reviewed and ranked for scientific merit and relevance to EPA missions, will be funded. This will allow the research to begin with minimal lag time, a benefit to all concerned.

Expected Results:

CPBR's ERTT mission is to support basic biotechnology research and the development of new, commercially valuable technologies supportive of the long-term strategic goals of EPA. The research projects selected will address these goals. It is anticipated that the projects will provide substantial environmental benefits through results such as:
