The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) operates water-resources offices in every State, with our mission being to provide reliable, impartial, and timely information needed to understand the water resources of the United States. We can cooperate with Federal, State, municipal, county, and local water agencies and groups to provide information about existing water resources and investigate areas of hydrologic concern.

If you would like to discuss how USGS can assist with a water situation in your area please contact Walter A. Aucott, Director, USGS Kansas Water Science Center.

Types of hydrologic studies that USGS does

Continuous ("real-time") monitoring of streamflow, stream height, water quality
Continuous ("real-time") monitoring of ground-water levels in wells
   Surface- and ground-water quality investigations
Modelling flow of groundwater in aquifers
   Flood and drought analyses
   Sediment-transport studies
   Water-use studies
   Surface-water runoff and precipitation studies
   Contaminants in water
