About Us

PSP-One works with a broad range of private providers, including pharmacists like this one in the Philippines. Photo by Craig Carlson The PSP-One project is USAID’s flagship project to increase the private sector’s provision of high-quality reproductive health and family planning (RH/FP) and other health products and services in developing countries. USAID looks to PSP-One to provide technical leadership in optimal private sector strategies; to synthesize and disseminate proven strategies, research findings, and tools; and to provide country-level support in development and scale-up of successful private sector approaches. PSP-One works to advance state-of-the-art knowledge and practices in private sector programming.

To increase private and commercial sector participation in the sustainable provision of RH/FP and other health products and services, PSP-One works to:

  • Advance private sector programming knowledge and practice. Task Forces and Panels are two key vehicles for identifying, building consensus around, and disseminating knowledge and practices.
  • Facilitate commercial alliances and pharmaceutical partnerships.
  • Build and strengthen private provider networks and social franchises.
  • Pursue optimal market segmentation and social marketing strategies.
  • Promote behavior change through targeted health communications.
  • Upgrade private provider performance and ensure high-quality products and services.
  • Develop voucher schemes and other financial mechanisms to expand access to private sector reproductive health products and services.
  • Improve policy and regulatory environments.
  • Conduct research, monitoring, and evaluation to evaluate the effectiveness of private sector strategies.
  • Scale up proven private sector strategies and approaches.
