Major Aquifer Studies: Ogallala Formation and Quaternary deposits - central High Plains
Objective:
Provide a broad overview of
ground-water quality in these two hydrogeologic units within the High Plains
Study area.
Approach:
Ogallala Formation - Randomly locate 74
existing domestic wells (app. 1 per 500 square miles)
completed in the Ogallala Formation (parts of KS, OK, NM, and TX)
(see map).
Quaternary deposits - Randomly locate 20
existing domestic wells (app. 1 per 350 square miles)
completed in the Quaternary deposits (KS).
Sample each well once.
Timing:
January through July 1999 for each study
Targeted Constituents:
Physical parameters, major ions, nutrients,
trace elements, radon, pesticides, volatile organic compounds (VOC's), and
dissolved organic carbon (DOC) for each study.
