Prevention and Control
In Africa - where 90 percent of the world's malaria related deaths occur - the major challenge facing malaria control operations is
ensuring effective malaria control services are widely available to those populations at greatest risk from malaria illness.
- Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS)
IRS is the organized, timely spraying of an insecticide on the inside walls of houses or dwellings. IRS has been used for decades and has helped eliminate malaria from many areas of the world.
- Insecticide-Treated Netting (ITN)
Insecticide-treated netting (ITNs) materials
are one of the four key approaches to reduce sickness and death due
to malaria.
- Integrated Vector Management (IVM)
USAID has been developing a model Integrated
Vector Management (IVM) program for malaria control in Eritrea
since 1998.
