Orleans County, La., had the biggest over-the-year percentage increase in employment
(5.0 percent) in March 2008; nationally, jobs grew 0.4 percent. Westmoreland, Pa.,
had the largest gain in average weekly wages (14.9 percent) in the first quarter of
2008, compared with a national increase of 2.4 percent.

Median weekly earnings of the nation's 107.2 million full-time
wage and salary workers were $720 in the third quarter of 2008.
This was 3.6 percent higher than a year earlier, compared with
a gain of 5.3 percent in the Consumer Price Index for All
Urban Consumers (CPI-U) over the same period.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) was virtually unchanged in September following a 0.1-percent decrease in August. The index for energy fell 1.9 percent in September following a 3.1-percent decline in August.
