In June 2004, the Theodore Roosevelt Society (TRS) became the supporting Friends Group for Theodore Roosevelt National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Efforts are currently underway to identify potential supporters and recruit active members. The Theodore Roosevelt Society will enable our refuges to offer more programs with specific interest to targeted groups such as families, organizations, communities, hunters, anglers, and clubs. The Society will focus on nature and environmental resources. TRS would also link up with other Friends groups across the nation to build bridges that would support new audiences and encourage more visitation to refuges in the Complex.

The purpose of the Theodore Roosevelt Society is to:

  • Improve public knowledge about wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities in Mississippi.
  • Enhance knowledge about the role national wildlife refuges play in conservation and wildlife habitat preservation.
  • Further public understanding of the importance of volunteers on national wildlife refuges.
  • Create a sense of public ownership and pride in America's national wildlife refuges.

Individuals or groups interested in joining the Theodore Roosevelt Society, should contact the Refuge Headquarters at 662-839-2638, send an E-Mail to yazoo.fws.gov, or write:
