Traffic Inputs for M-E PDG

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has organized a 2-day technology exchange workshop on traffic data collection issues regarding implementation of the new Mechanistic and Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG). The purpose of the workshop is to share best practices, identify issues, problems, and concerns, and develop solutions for traffic data collection that are required for successful use of the MEPDG. The workshop is designed to foster coordination, communication, and cooperation between state representative responsible for traffic data collection and those who are responsible for pavement design.

In addition to a discussion on load data collection and its use in the MEPDG, the workshop will also provide an opportunity to brainstorm and share ideas. The purpose of this discussion is to identify concerns and improve upon best practices. Although the emphasis will be on pavement design, traffic data is used for a variety of purposes including environmental analyses and preparing roadway geometric and intersection designs.

The target audience for this workshop includes State DOT professionals responsible for collecting and using traffic loading data for use in the new MEPDG, as well as Pavement Design or Pavement Management engineers.
