Primary Topic: Pavement Rehabilitation Description: This handbook i s primarily intended to assist the Federal Highway Admini stration (FHWA) area engineers when they make highway construction inspections. It can also be used when reviewing specifications, supplemental specifications, and special provisions during the PSLE stage of a project. It i s a companion to the design oriented FHUA notebook entitled, "Techniques For Pavement Rehabil i t a t i on." Information contained herein i s a guide and i s not intended as a standard. State highway agencies should use or develop t h e i r own specifications. The information i n this handbook was selected from current reports prepared by the Transportation Research Board under the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, Michael I. Darter of the University of I1 1 inoi s, the Port1 and Cement Association, the American Concrete Pavement Association, and several State highway agencies. Most of the tables and figures contained i n this handbook were duplicated from the reference reports. The number of different rehabilitation techniques covered i n this handbook are 1 imi ted at this time. However, the handbook w i l l be expanded to include additional construction techniques for rehabilitating rigid and flexible pavements. The technical guidelines and recomnendations have been prepared to reflect the views and opinions of the FHWA Construction and Maintenance Division.
