Welcome to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Podcast recall review for the week of November 28st, 2005.

Here are some of the recalls announced by CPSC recently:

CPSC and Stravina Operating Company announced the recall of about 6 million children’s metal necklaces and zipper pulls.

The metal jewelry contains high levels of accessible lead in the metal and/or the paint, posing a serious risk of lead poisoning to young children. Lead is toxic if ingested by children and can cause adverse health effects.

There have been no incidents or injuries reported with the metal necklaces and zipper pulls. They were sold at discount, toy, party, grocery and drug stores for between $2 and $4.

Consumers should immediately take this metal jewelry away from children and contact Stravina for a free replacement product at 800-964-0029 or visit www.stravina.com for more information.

CPSC and Porter-Cable Announced the Recall to Repair about 196,000 7 ¼- inch circular MAG-saws.

The lower guard on these saws could stick in the open position, posing a risk of severe lacerations to consumers. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

The recall involves Porter-Cable 7 ¼-inch MAG-Saw Circular Saws with model numbers 324MAG, 325MAG, 423MAG, and 424MAG – all with certain serial numbers.

The recalled circular saws were sold at major home center and hardware stores nationwide from March 2004 through November 2005 for between $130 and $160.

Consumers should stop using the circular saws immediately and contact Porter-Cable for the location of the nearest service center to receive a free inspection and repair, if necessary. Call Porter-Cable at 800-949-7930.

CPSC, Sanus Systems Announced the Recall of about 14,000 Television Wall Mounting Units

An undersized shaft within the wall mounting unit can cause the product’s main support component to loosen. As a result, the unit and the television it is supporting can fall from the wall, posing a risk of injury to consumers.

Sanus Systems has received one report of significant loosening in the product’s main support component. No incidents or injuries relating to the unit failure have been reported.

The recall involves the swing arm wall mount for flat panel televisions. The TV wall mount being recalled is the VisionMount model VMSA.

The recalled television wall mounts were sold at Audio Video stores from December 2004 through May 4, 2005 for about $350.

Consumers should contact Sanus Systems immediately to request a free safety bracket and for instructions on how to install the safety device. You can reach Sanus Systems at 800-359-5520 or visit the firm’s Web site at www.sanus.com.

CPSC and Ideal Distributors Announced the Recall of about 1,000 Cachito Pacifiers

The nipples on the pacifiers can detach from the base, posing a choking hazard to young children.

The recalled pacifiers are blue, white, yellow or pink plastic with a yellow nipple and a circular or clove-shaped handle. The nipples are filled with honey or a sugary substance.

The pacifiers were sold at various independent Mexican supermarkets and drug stores in the Chicago, Illinois area from July through September 2005 for about $1.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled pacifiers away from young children and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund.

CPSC and King of Fans announced the recall of about 202,000 Maxi-Heat Electric Oil-Filled Radiator Heaters

Welds in the heating fins can break, allowing oil to leak. This poses a burn and fall hazard to consumers.

King of Fans has received 81 reports of incidents involving leaking oil. Two minor burns were reported, along with two reports of falls in the oil.

The portable electric radiator-style heaters have seven fins, one of which as the control panel attached to it. The recall involves model number 70030 and date codes 0705 and 0805.
