Category 1: Metadata
Implementation Assistance Projects
Creating data about geospatial data (metadata) is an important first
step in implementing the NSDI. These projects focus on acquiring the
knowledge and experience to create metadata for clearinghouse
discovery. Up to $9,000 per project, 24 awards.

Category 2: Metadata
Trainer Assistance
Understanding the metadata standard, and how to apply it to
one’s data is a difficult first step in implementing data discovery
through the clearinghouse. These metadata trainer projects provide
metadata training to other organizations that need it. Up to $25,000
per project, 6 awards.

Category 5:
Canadian/US Spatial Data Infrastructure Development
Building a spatial data framework in the Gulf of Maine to support
benthic mapping for marine resource management. This project will
initiate development of accessible geospatial data relating to the sea
floor. The resulting infrastructure will be the Gulf of Maine Data
Framework (GOMDF). The Federal Geographic Data Committee and
GeoConnections Canada are jointly funding in parallel these projects.
GeoConnections (www.geoconnections.org) is developing the Canadian
Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). U.S. award $74,973. Canadian
award $99,702.
