The report, Fertility of American Women: June 1995 (P20-499), provides fertility data by age, sex, race, marital status, education, employment, occupation and income for June 1995. Among the highlights: - Women 15 to 44 years old had an average of 1.2 children each. - About 42 percent of women 15 to 44 years old were childless in 1995. - Of the 22.8 million women who were never married at the time of the survey, 21 percent had given birth to at least one child. - There were 6.1 million foreign-born women 15 to 44 years old who had an average of 1.6 children each.
