IAP2 is an association of members who seek to promote and improve the practice of public participation in relation to individuals, governments, institutions, and other entities that affect the public interest in nations throughout the world. IAP2 carries out its mission by organizing and conducting activities to:
- Serve the learning needs of members through events, publications, and communication technology;
- Advocate for public participation throughout the world;
- Promote a results-oriented research agenda and use research to support educational and advocacy goals;
- Provide technical assistance to improve public participation.
Results of Board of Directors Election
Elected to serve on the 2009 Board for three years are:
Desley Renton, Australia; Deborah Eastlick, Canada; Stephanie Boone-Shaw, USA; Geoff Wilson, Canada; Mitch Bishop, USA and they will also be joined by Australasian Affiliate nominee Kimbra White, Australia.
They join existing Board members whose service continues in 2009:
Stephani Roy McCallum, Canada, 2008 President; Geoff Fagan, UK, 2009 President; Leo Dillman, Canada; Anne Carroll, USA; Lyn Carson, Australia; John Godec, USA; Joana Janiw, France; Terry Koch, Canada; Amelia Shaw, Canada; Gale Simpson, Canada.
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Erin Browning, Nicky Leggatt, Audra Thomas, Rachael Siddall, Noreen Rude and Jeffrey Evans, who offered their skills and experience to IAP2 as potential Board members.
I am sure you will join me in welcoming the new members, and also extending appreciation to the existing members of the Board who have served the organization well, and whose terms end in 2008: Scott Russell, USA, Past President, Anne Pattillo, New Zealand, Vice President, Doug Zenn, USA, Treasurer, Grant McLaughlin, USA, Carol Anderson, USA, and Lonny Gabinet, Canada.
Congratulations to all the new Board members and thank you to everyone who put themselves forward as a candidate – it was a strong field and is a great sign of a healthy organisation to have 11 nominations for the 5 vacancies.

International Journal of Public Participation - Seeking Editor
IAP2 is seeking an editor to lead, manage, and further develop a three-year old online, peer reviewed journal with an international audience. The mission of the IJP2 is to foster integration and dialogue within the professional field of public participation across its different traditions and related disciplines and to bridge theory and practice.

Introducing IAP2's New Executive Director
Many of you are aware that IAP2 recently conducted an international search for a new Executive Director. That search has successfully come to an end, and it is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Moira Deslandes as the new Executive Director of IAP2.
