U.S. Labor Department to Participate in Health-Care
Industry Summit in Annapolis
Employment and Training Official Will Focus on High
Growth Job Training Initiative
ANNAPOLIS, Md.Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment
and Training Emily Stover DeRocco will discuss the need to increase the number
of skilled health-care workers in a keynote address on Aug. 28, 2003, at the
Maryland Health-Care Workforce Summit in Annapolis, Md.
The summit will bring together members of the health-care industry
representing more than 650 employers, leaders from state licensing boards, and
the state educational system. DeRoccos remarks will highlight the Bush
Administrations High Growth Job Training Initiative as a major response
to the healthcare industrys worker shortage.
President Bush and Secretary of Labor Chao believe that preparing
skilled workers for available jobs is the key to the success of a demand-driven
workforce investment system, said DeRocco. Hearing from industry
leaders is paramount in meeting the needs of healthcare employers and in
helping to provide workers with the skills necessary for a prosperous
future.
As part of the High Growth Job Training Initiative, the U.S. Labor
Department conducts extensive industry research to identify expanding
industries; convenes forums with executives and human resource professionals to
determine workforce gaps in the industry; and, in partnership with employers,
educational institutions and workforce leaders, develops a plan to address
business needs.
DeRoccos participation in the summit is the latest in a continuous
effort by the Bush Administration to hear directly from industry leaders about
employment and training needs.
