UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA
In the week ending Dec. 3, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial
claims was 327,000, an increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised
figure of 321,000. The 4-week moving average was 322,500, a decrease of 250
from the previous week's revised average of 322,750.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.0 percent
for the week ending Nov. 26, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's revised rate of
2.1 percent.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during
the week ending Nov. 26 was 2,603,000, a decrease of 137,000 from the preceding
week's revised level of 2,740,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,726,250,
a decrease of 46,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,773,000.
UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted,
totaled 443,165 in the week ending Dec. 3, an increase of 152,650 from the previous
week. There were 473,570 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.1 percent during the
week ending Nov. 26, an increase of 0.3 percentage point from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 2,714,675, an increase of 412,668 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 2.3 percent and the volume was 2,880,075.
Extended benefits were available in Louisiana during the week ending Nov. 19. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,209 in the week ending Nov. 26, a decrease of 1,257 from the prior week. There were 1,626 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 698 from the preceding week.
There were 16,729 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Nov. 19, a decrease of 2,485 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 24,738, a decrease of 3,812 from the prior week.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Nov. 19 were in Louisiana (10.0 percent), Alaska (4.3), Mississippi (4.0), Puerto Rico (3.9), Michigan (2.6), Oregon (2.5), Pennsylvania (2.5), New Jersey (2.4), Arkansas (2.3), and Wisconsin (2.2).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 26 were in Wisconsin (+9,306), Kentucky (+1,339), Pennsylvania (+1,067), Vermont (+692), and Massachusetts (+556), while the largest decreases were in Florida (-15,070), California (-14,402), Michigan (-6,278), Illinois (-5,094), and Louisiana (-4,571).
