The monetary difference between public and private pension benefits tends to diminish when employee contributions and Social Security coverage are considered. This article uses data from the Employee Benefits Survey to compare the benefits of pension plans having similar characteristics in the public and private sectors, and explores the relationship of plan provisions and how one provision affects another provision.
