Building Community...
A Powerful Asset for 21st Century Leadership

Clifton Taulbert, a Pulitzer-nominated author and the President and Founder of the Building Community Institute speaks throughout the world on the critical issue of building community, an infrastructure of satisfying relationships within an environment branded by R.A.I: Respect, Affirmation and Inclusion. His book, Eight Habits of the Heart, which has been described as a “journey into consciousness,” serves as the introspective tool to help shape the “intent” to build, maintain and sustain a powerful, effective and caring community. Taulbert’s walk to the global corridors of corporations and academic institutions has shown him the on-going relevance of the timeless values known as the “Eight Habits of the Heart.” On the subject, he lectures throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Central America to top educational institutions, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies. From Harvard to Memorial Health Care to Bank of America to members of the Unites States Supreme Court, these principles to build “community” within our professional lives have had profound impact. When recently introduced by the Vice-President and Chief Information Officer for Ford Motor Company, Taulbert’s words and voice were described as one “lasting impact.”

He has authored nine books, including the internationally acclaimed and Pulitzer-nominated memoirs, Last Train North, Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored, Watching our Crops Come In, the praised Eight Habits of the Heart, as well as the “Little Cliff” children’s series, and The Journey Home: A Father’s Gift to His Son. He has written for national and international publications and was the co-producer of the award-winning film, Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored.
