Linking Policy
The Federal Citizen Information
Center(FCIC) links to other Federal Government web sites or government-sponsored
websites that are publicly available. Acceptable federal government-owned or
government-sponsored website domains include .gov, .mil and .fed.us. FCIC also
links to: quasi-government agencies and websites created by public
sector/private sector partnerships; state and local government sites (e.g.,
www.maryland.gov); and some government-sponsored websites that end in .com,
.org, or .net (e.g., www.usps.com for the U.S. Postal Service and
www.ncfy.com/clear.htm for the National Clearinghouses and Resource Centers on
Families and Youth).
Links to Non-Government
Websites
FCIC does not participate in
reciprocal linking. On occasion, FCIC links to websites that are not
government-owned or government-sponsored if these websites provide government
information and/or services in a way that is not available on an official
government website. FCIC provides these non-government websites as a public
service only. The U.S. government, including the U.S. General Services
Administration (the primary sponsoring federal agency of FCIC), neither endorses
nor guarantees in any way the external organizations, services, advice, or
products included in these website links. Furthermore, the U.S. government
neither controls nor guarantees the accuracy, relevance, timeliness or
completeness of the information contained in non-government website
links.
Linking to the
Federal Citizen Information Center websites
In our humble (and totally
unbiased) opinion, we think that the Federal Citizen Information Center has some
of the most useful information available for FREE on the World Wide Web.
Citizens can get answers to all of their questions about the Federal government
and everyday consumer issues.
USA.gov
links citizens to millions of pages of helpful information from federal, state
and local government websites.
Full text versions of hundreds of
consumer-oriented publications make www.pueblo.gsa.gov
an essential stop on the
Web.
Kids.gov
connects children to all the resources of the
federal government - and it's geared to their level and
interests.
Get the full text of the Consumer
Action Handbook atConsumerAction.gov. This site features tips on topics such as buying a car,
protecting against fraud and shopping from home - consumers can use the links
featured to register complaints directly.
We hope you agree and want to place a
link to FCIC's family of websites on your site or promote USA.gov, Pueblo.gsa.gov, Kids.gov,
or ConsumerAction.gov in your printed materials (books, magazines,
newspapers, etc.). If you do, we have developed some link text (as well as some
graphics), all of which you are welcome to use.

Notes on Links
- Dead links are a problem for everyone. Web
pages come and go, file and directory names change, etc., etc., etc.. We know
you want to take your visitor directly to a piece of information but we would
prefer that you link to our main page. It will always be there and we will try
to make it easy for your visitors to find what they are interested in.
- You don't need to get our permission
to link to our site but we would love to hear from you if you do provide a
link. Send us an e-mail.
- Reciprocal Links - FCIC reviews
requests for reciprocal links on a case-by-case basis. Our general criteria for
accepting such links is that they must provide information useful to many
consumers and not require purchases or memberships to obtain this information.
There are also practical considerations that we not have so many links that we
can't effectively maintain them (see "Dead links.." above). If you want to
suggest your site for review, e-mail us.
